At an estimated development cost of US$40bn and after a series of delays, development of Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Lightning II under the Joint Strike Fighter programme has been the target for critics from all sides in recent years. This month, debate erupted in Canada as the Liberal Party announced that it would put the nation’s involvement with the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter project "on hold" if it is elected into government.
