The T-X programme has had a long and bumpy flight to its present progress, having fended off budget cuts and indecisive analysis over projected requirements, pushing IOC to around 2023. However, progress is unavoidable. 500 ageing T-38s simply must be replaced with up to 350 gleaming new platforms. The official Request for Information was released in March 2015, and, as it stands, a Request for Proposal may be issued as soon as this month.
