Recent conflicts between near or close peers have, to some extent, shown the limitations of passive protection systems such as armour. While certainly not discounting its importance and value in protecting the platform and crew, advances in technology in defeating armour have pushed forces to investigate potential active protection systems (APS) to further increase survivability. We had the privilege of interviewing Tom Newbery, CPhys from DSTL’s platform Survivability Group, to dive further into the topic and give us insight into the cutting edge of platform protection.
