Wing Commander Jon McMahon

Jon joined the RAF in 1993 as a Flight Simulator Technician with an early introduction to digital programming alongside the array of AV and electro-mechanical skills required to maintain this technology. He then commissioned as an engineering officer reading Electrical Engineering through Cranfield University on the way. He has worked on airfield and air defence radars, weapons and countermeasure systems, battlefield communications and the delivery of Cyber effects and security. Additionally, he is versed in policy and project delivering across a range of technical intelligence and electronic warfare disciplines and was involved in delivering the Defence Cyber Strategy which was Defence’s contribution to the delivery of the National Cyber Strategy. His time has included global operational deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and west Africa as well as UK operations supporting the 2012 Olympic Games and the settlement of Afghan refugees in the UK following the evacuation of Kabul. He is extensively studied in Leadership and Management at the post-graduate level, is a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management and also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional. Jon is currently the Deputy Team Leader in the Defence Support Innovation Team; his portfolio includes Digital Manufacturing, Automation and AI, and Quantum.
