Deputy Army Commander Swedish Army

Brigadier General Per Nilsson commissioned from Armoured Officers Academy, Skövde in 1990 and was posted to South Scanian Regiment in the south of Sweden, to join the 1st armoured battalion, 7th Brigade. He served in several different positions at the Regiment and returned back to the Regiment as chief of staff between 2013 and 2016.

Operational deployments UN mission in Bosnia in 1995 as mechanised infantry platoon leader in NORDBAT 2. He served as military information officer in UN mission in Angola between 1999 and 2000. He returned to the Balkans and Kosovo in 2001, as second in command of a mechanised infantry company in the Swedish battalion.

In 2005 he returned to Africa and the UN mission in Liberia as company commander. 2007 he deployed the Middle East and served in the UNTSO mission as operations officer for Golan Heights. In 2010 he deployed to the Far East and Afghanistan as chief of operations in the Swedish Finnish Provincial Reconstruction Team. In 2016 he returned to Africa again and Mali as Contingent commander for the Swedish ISR Task Force.

In 2010 He completed the higher Command Programme at Swedish National Defence College where he graduated with a Bachelor exam in wars science. He was promoted to colonel in 2019 and assumed command of the army Logistic Regiment between 2019 and 2021. He was the commander of the Military Region South between 2021 and 2024.

He attended Higher Command and Staff Course at Joint Services Command and Staff College in Shrivenham, UK, 2024. He has several postings in Swedish Army Headquarters and Swedish Armed Forces Headquarter. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 2024 when he was appointed as deputy army commander Swedish Army. He is an average runner and enjoys hiking and cycling. In his young years he was a very ambitious swimmer.
