Dr Neil Melvin

Director, International Security RUSI

Dr Neil Melvin is Director, International Security at RUSI, where he leads the team analysing emerging security and defence dynamics in Europe and Eurasia, the Gulf and Middle East, East Africa and the Horn, Latin America, and the Indo-Pacific. His current research examines the impact on international security of Russia’s war in Ukraine, and the security and defence of the Arctic and High North.

Dr Melvin has been Director of Research at SIPRI, and has held research positions at Chatham House, the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels, and the London School of Economics. He has also held senior adviser positions in the EU, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Energy Charter, and has been a consultant on terrorism and extremism for the United Nations. Dr Melvin holds a DPhil from Oxford University.
