Hani Nasser

Director of Domains and Technology Policy Department of National Defence

Hani Nasser is the Director of Domains and Technology Policy at the Department of National Defence (DND) where he leads a team focused on Cyber, AI, Space, Emerging Technology and AUKUS, as well as on Arctic and Climate Change. Previously, Hani was the Director for NATO and Europe Policy, as well as the departmental lead on Canada’s defence policy towards Ukraine. Prior to joining DND, Hani spent 15 years at Global Affairs Canada (GAC). Most recently, he was the Political Counsellor and Deputy Head of the Political Section at Canada’s Embassy to the United States in Washington DC.

In this position, Hani managed Canada-US relations on high priority and high-profile issues, including Asia, Europe, multilateral organizations, sanctions and human rights. Hani has held various other positions within GAC, including Acting Director of the division that negotiated and managed the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and Spokesperson at the Embassy of Canada to the U.S. He has also worked on international economic relations, international security, and Southeast Asia. Outside of policy, Hani was a member of Canada’s Standing Rapid Deployment Team, which deployed to support Canadians during challenging events around the world.
