Lieutenant General Nick Borton DSO MBE

Lieutenant General Nicholas Borton was educated in Dorset and Scotland and commissioned into The Royal Highland Fusiliers in 1991. He served with the Battalion in UK, Belize, Bosnia, Northern Ireland, Cyprus and Iraq. He has been an instructor at the Jungle Warfare School in Brunei, and Military Assistant 2 to the Chief of the General Staff. After a period as DS at the ACSC, he commanded 2 SCOTS, deploying to Afghanistan with his Battalion in 2008 as part of 16 Air Assault Brigade, where he commanded Battlegroup North West in Musa Qal'eh. He was awarded the DSO for this tour. He completed his Colonel's appointment in Plans in Army HQ. He commanded 16 Air Assault Brigade from 2013 to 2015 in the contingency role and was then Head Operations (Military) in the Ops Directorate in MoD. Following promotion to Major General he commanded the 3rd (UK) Division from 2016 to 2018 before holding the position of Chief of Staff Operations at the Permanent Joint Headquarters from 2019 to 2021. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in 2020 and will assume command of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps in December 2021. He is Colonel of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and took up the position of Colonel Commandant of the Army Air Corps in December 2020. He is married to Amanda, and they have two daughters.
