Michael Tombs

Michael began his career as an aircraft engineer in the British Army, spending over 13 years supporting military aviation operations by maintaining and managing several rotary and unmanned platforms, completing two operational tours to Afghanistan and multiple global deployments. Transitioning to Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) in 2020, he played a key role in the £1.5Bn Type 31 Frigate acquisition programme, leading the training and operability development across the warfare, marine, weapon and communication systems operated by the 105 crew. In 2023, he joined Satcom Direct as the European Business Development Lead, specialising in bespoke, turnkey aero satcom solutions for military and government operators of all platform types. Michael has recently assumed a new role as the Director of Middle East & Africa, where he now drives strategic growth in the region.
