LtCol Sean Matten was commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1994 and served in Mechanised Close Support, Air Support and EOD Units in the UK and Germany including operations in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. He commanded British Forces on South Georgia in the South Atlantic for 5 months and went on to command a sub-unit on operations in Iraq. His staff career began with two tours in 1st (UK) Armoured Division. He subsequently completed 3 years in Army HQ within the Equipment Directorate, managing the provision of in-service equipment support. His last post was as Deputy Chief of Staff and then Chief of Staff of HQ 8 Engineer Brigade. He was appointed as Deputy Director of the Military Engineering Centre of Excellence in Sep 2018.
