Colonel Gareth Walker

Deputy Head Customer Support Team - Army and Head Office & Enabling Services UK Defence Infrastructure Organisation

With more than 25 years’ service in the British Army, and a Professionally Qualified Engineer since 2008, Gareth has broad military experience, as well as being a deep infrastructure specialist. He has commanded in the UK and overseas: most recently on Operation RUMAN, a Humanitarian and Disaster Relief operation in 2017, for which his unit was awarded the Firmin Sword of Peace and he the OBE. Gareth has extensive experience of managing projects and programmes in the armed forces and the civil sector, as well as being a seasoned planner and crises manager. He has provided advice to the highest levels of governance and was notably Defence’s Liaison Officer to the Environment Agency and a twice elected national member of the Institution of Civil Engineers governing body. Prior to his current appointment in the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, Gareth was responsible to the UK’s Chief of Joint Operations for the planning and delivery of all infrastructure on overseas operations.
