Shaun Goodman is the Defence Availability Centre (DAC) Deputy Head. His role includes the identification and management of issues and risks which adversely affect the Availability and Readiness of our Equipment Inventory. Primarily designed to remove stovepipe barriers to issue resolution, Shaun majors on developing the communities of interest and responsible stakeholders to seek collaborative solutions to pervasive issues. Closely aligned to the aspirations of Improving Defence Outputs (IDO), he is also responsible for ensuring Defence priorities are understood by the whole team in an operational and outputs context synergising the relationships between Front Line Commands, DE&S Domains and the arms-length bodies supporting. Shaun has previously managed the Service Provision and Transformation Contract across all sub-functions as the Service Management Function lead effectively overseeing the maintenance, repair and overhaul of the entire LAND Equipment fleet. In addition, he is accredited for having been the architect of the Supply Chain Resilience Intelligence Performance Tool (SCRIPT) illuminating the Defence Supply Chain down to tier-4 and beyond where necessary. Prior to this Shaun served a full Military career achieving promotion to the rank of Substantive Lieutenant Colonel before retirement having started his military career as a private soldier in the Corps of Royal Engineers and, after several promotions, having served as a Regimental Sergeant Major, commissioned from the ranks to become an Officer and embark on a second career. Shaun has served 13 Operational tours across the world including Northern Ireland (during the troubles), Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. He has served as Chief of Staff to the Engineer Division of the NATO Joint Force Headquarters Brunssum and as a senior logistics advisor to the Afghan National Army’s Ministry of Defence where he received two four-star Commendations and a US Bronze Star. Since retiring from the Military and joining the Civil Service, Shaun has also recently achieved the status of World Contracting and Commercial Gold Standard adding Commercial rigour to his already extensive Logistics qualifications. In addition, he has completed the Defence Senior Leadership Programme. Shaun represents the Civil Service and previously the Armed Forces at Squash and will in 2024 be seeking selection at County/National level in his age group. He also has a passion for wildlife and product/food photography spending what little spare time he has chasing creatures and light. His recent hobby includes data analysis and the exploitation of AI technologies both in his hobbies and at work.
