George Buckingham

Acting Director of Acquisition Programmes NSPA

George Buckingham joined the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) - then known as NAMSA - in 2009. He worked in Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in support of operations in Afghanistan including a number of deployments to Kabul. He also planned Agency and contractor support to future NATO operations and represented the Agency on a variety of NATO Committees.

He is now heads the NSPA’s Acquisition Planning and Development Office (APDO). His office acts as an entry door for customers wishing to use the Agency for new acquisition projects and programmes. It ensures the responsive start-up and initiation of initiatives including development of the Next Generation Rotorcraft Capability and the acquisition of E-7 aircraft to replace NATO’s current Airborne Early Warning and Control fleet.

Since January 2024 he has been the acting Director of the Agency’s newly formed Acquisition Directorate. The directorate is the focus for NSPA to be the Alliance’s first choice for acquisition of multinational, national and common funded systems, incorporating innovative practices and technologies
