Colonel Alan Chambers

Command Surgeon US EUCOM

Colonel Chambers is the Command Surgeon (Lead Medical Advisor) to the Commander, US European Command, GEN Christopher Cavoli. He is responsible for the medical readiness of all US forces assigned to US European Command, including bilateral coordination of efforts with Allies & Partner Nations in Europe and SHAPE. He received his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health & Tropical Medicine from Tulane University. Col Chambers began his career as a flight surgeon with the Joint Special Operations Command before completing residencies in general surgery as well as plastic & reconstructive surgery followed by a fellowship in hand surgery at Harvard University. He has commanded at the squadron and deployed medical group levels and completed one tour of duty at the Pentagon as the Director of the DoD’s International Health Specialist Program. He has deployed in support of three named operations. Col Chambers has published three dozen peer-reviewed articles and five books; his most recent book is Field Guide to Global Health & Disaster Medicine (Elsevier, 2021) which includes contributions from sixteen nations, including the United Kingdom.
