COL Johan Jönsson serves as commander of the Air Defense Regiment, ADA inspector of the army and Commander of Halmstad Garrison. His prior posting was as head of Defense staff mobilization section at the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters. Born and raised in Stockholm, COL Jönsson entered national military service as reconnaissance platoon leader in 1995 followed by basic officers training, graduating as 2nd lieutenant at the Roslagen Air Defence training regiment (Lv 3). Specialized in Army organic AD with RBS 70 SHORAD system. Due to defense reforms COL Jönsson was reassigned to Life Guard regiment in 2001. Working at the Dragoon battalion he served as an instructor and later platoon commander training national service light infantry, military police and rear area security units. In these positions at the Life Guards was also included mounted guard duties at the Royal palace. In 2010 COL Jönsson, as a captain, was commanding the first professional soldier company at the Life Guards. And following Swedish Defense University staff course, now as a major COL Jönsson was OC of different companies and squadrons. COL Jönsson attended the Higher Staff Course and then was appointed lieutenant colonel and battalion commander at the MP btn for three years. Then he served at SWAF HQ with strategic planning, economics and mobilization. After passing the special executives qualification process he was appointed colonel and commander of the ADA regiment in Halmstad in May of 2024 COL Jönsson have served on three longer operational tours, KFOR and UNTSO. In addition he has been responsible for specialist units serving in Afghanistan and Mali. He has a bachelor degree in military technologies and a master in war science. He has a diploma (minor MBA) at the Stockholm School of Economics. COL Jönsson awards include national defense medal, international duties medals, voluntary defense association merit medals, SWAF HQ merit medal and KFOR and UNTSO service medals. He also wears MP training badge, General staff badge and basic parachutist training badge. COL Jönsson lives in Stockholm and is married to Lisa and he has a son and a daughter from a previous marriage.
