LTC Tanel Lelov started his military service in Estonia Defence Forces in 1999 as conscript in Pärnu Single-Infantry Battalion. After his conscription, he started studying in Estonian National Defence College that he graduated in 2003 as 2nd Lieutenant, following which started his service as air defender in Air Defence Battalion.

He has served in various positions as Platoon Leader up to Battalion commander (June 2017 – August 2022). One deployment to Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom as battle captain in Jul 2008 – Feb 2009. Starting from 1st January 2023 he serves as Chief AMD in Estonian Division headquarters, responsible of integrating Air and Missile Defence into Division plans.
