Sqn Ldr Charlie Lynn has spent 26 years as a Royal Air Force Air Force Protection (Air FP) specialist providing Air FP advice and support to enable military air operations in support of UK defence interests. During that time he has served on numerous Expeditionary Air Wings in multiple operational theatres across the globe and in the UK. Following the December 2018 Gatwick Drone Incident, Charlie was posted to the Air and Space Warfare Centre at RAF Waddington to review Force Protection training, doctrine and tactics and procedures to mitigate the growing threat of UAS. Developing a detailed understanding of commercial and military UAS technology, the threat posed to military operations and evolving C-UAS capabilities to mitigate such threats, Charlie has provided specialist C-UAS advice to defence, cross-government, industry, and coalition partners. He has deployed forward on multiple occasions to inform the development of UK defence C-UAS capability and has supported coalition partner analysis of operational C-UAS systems and training. In 2022 Charlie was posted to his current role as Chief of Staff of the UK Joint C-UAS Office which provides coherence, co-ordination, influence, and exploitation of pan defence C-UAS activities including engagement with cross-government, industry, and international partners. Charlie is a qualified military sUAS multi-rotor pilot and also enjoys flying his own UAS in his spare time.
