Colonel Stefan Sjöberg

Chief of Artillery Swedish Armed Forces

Colonel Stephan Gustav Sjöberg holds degrees from Thorildsplan College in Stockholm and graduated from Stockholm University in Economics. He also holds a degree from Toulouse, France (DEA, Diplome d´Études Approfondie) in International Relations from Toulouse Institute for Political Studies (IEP). He commissioned into the Swedish Armed Forces HQ from the Royal Military Academy (Försvarshögskolan) as Lieutenant-colonel in 2010. He became Colonel 1st of June 2020. During his military service as a conscript he served as squad leader at a high readiness and reconnaissance platoon. After completed military service, he served as a squad leader in UNIFIL, Libanon 1992-93. After basic officers training, he entered the army as a maintenance officer at the 10th Mechanized Brigade in Strängnäs (P10) from 1995 till 2003. During that period he also served in Bosnia in 1996. He studied at the same time at Stockholm University, and also took French language classes. He is now fluent in French. In 2003 Colonel Stephan G Sjöberg left the Mechanized Brigade P10 for Joint Forces Command (OPIL), Intelligence department (J2). As a Major he worked as analyst at the Swedish Armed Forces HQ in Stockholm. Following that he was ISTAR coordinator at the FHQ J2 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kinshasa, during operation EUFOR RDC. Promoted to Lieutenant colonel in 2010, he served as Staff officer close to the Chief of Staff of the Swedish Armed Forces HQ. Between 2012 – 14 he served as Head of Training Department at the Swedish Intelligence and Security Centre, Uppsala (FMUndSäkC. He served as Military advisor to the Ministry of Defence between 2014 – 17 at the Department for Intelligence Coordination. From the 1st of June 2020 he is serving as Chief of Plans at the Army Headquarters in Enköping. Since the 27 of June 2023 he took command of the Boden Artillery regiment in Boden and also got the function as Artillery inspector (CO Swedish Artillery). He grew up in Stockholm, and is living with his fiancé in the centre of the capital. His interests are sea life, training and travelling.
