Henk Ouwehand was born in Harderwijk The Netherlands, on 1st of May 1969. He graduated from the Royal Netherlands Military Academy and was commissioned into the Cavalry Reconnaissance Regiment in 1993. After his commission he served in various appointments within 103 Reconnaissance Battalion in Germany. He commanded a Brigade Recce Squadron in 2005.
In 2008 he attended the Advanced Command Staff Course at Shrivenham in the United Kingdom. After his graduation in 2009 he served in a staff appointment within the Netherlands MoD at the Future Policy Branch. In July 2011 he became the Netherlands Liaison Officer to the British Army at the Army HQ in Andover. As of May 2014 he changed his cap badge into infantry and commanded 45 Armoured Infantry Battalion equipped with CV90 Infantry Fighting Vehicles until March 2017. He very much enjoyed his command, which he viewed as the height of his career. He was appointed as head of the Directing Staff at the Advanced Command Staff Course (LAND). His next assignment was at the MOD management information branch. He was promoted to Colonel and is currently serving as Project manager Mid Life Update CV90 and the Boxer Program.
Col Henk Ouwehand served two times in Bosnia as XO of a combat Team and as an Ops officer within Multinational Division South West. During his tour in 2007 he was deployed to Afghanistan within the Uruzgan province, where he commanded an Armoured Infantry Company. His last assignment was in 2017 where he acted as Chief of Staff of the Kurdistan Training Coordination Centre in Iraq.
Col Ouwehand has five children, three boys and two girls aging 21 - 12. His hobbies are golfing, (watching) rugby and the Netherlands football team.
