Chief of Army Staff Brazilian Army

General VALÉRIO STUMPF TRINDADE has been the Chief of the General Staff since 5 May 2022.

He joined the Army in 1975, at the Cadet Preparatory School and declared Cavalry Officer in 1981, been deployed at the 3rd Mechanized Cavalry Regiment.

Additionally, he completed the Defence Resources Management Course at the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, California.

He was a Military Observer at the UN Peacekeeping Forces in Angola - UNAVEM II and in former Yugoslavia - UNPROFOR.

Gen Stumpf was an instructor at Agulhas Negras Military Academy, at the Officers Training School and the Army Command and Staff School. He was Military Advisor at the Presidency of the Republic.

As Colonel, he held the position of Military Attaché at the Brazilian Embassy in London and he was manager of the Army Transformation Process at the Army General Staff.

When in the rank as Major General, he was Chief of the Operations Centre of the Western Military Command and Commander of the 1st Mechanised Cavalry Brigade.

Gen Stumpf, as Lieutenant General, was the Commander of the 3rd Military Region, Deputy Commander of Land Operations and Deputy Minister of the Cabinet of Institutional Security of the Presidency of the Republic.

As General, he was the Army Secretary for Economy and Finance and later took over as South Military Commander.
