Major Sebastian Langvad

Teacher, Complex Operations Norwegian Military Academy

Major Sebastian Langvad began his career at the Norwegian Defence School for Intelligence and Security, specializing in Arabic language and the Middle East. He has experience from counterinsurgency and security force assistance from Afghanistan and several countries in the Middle East. After the Military Academy he transitioned to the Infantry, and led an arctic light infantry platoon. This included extensive tactical experimentation in arctic close combat. Both as a battalion staff officer, and commander of a Ranger Company at the Norwegian Border Guard in Finnmark, Major Langvad immersed himself in planning and preparation for national defense in Northern Norway. He placed particular emphasis on cooperation with the Home Guard and the overall Total Defense concept, to unlock the home field advantage as a force multiplier. Parallel to his operational experience, Major Langvad has been a prolific contributor to the Norwegian professional military discourse on future doctrine and force design.
