Deputy Commanding General – Readiness U.S. Army V Corps

Brigadier General Matthew W. Brown graduated from the U.S. Military Academy and commissioned as an Infantry Second Lieutenant in 1997. His past assignments include Bradley Platoon Leader, Support Platoon Leader, and Battalion S4 in 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry at Camp Able Sentry, Macedonia and Schweinfurt, Germany. He then served as an assistant operations officer in the G3, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and in Kuwait and Iraq. Subsequently assigned to 3rd Brigade, he commanded C Company, 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry during Operation Iraqi Freedom I and HHC, 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry during Operation Iraqi Freedom IV. Following redeployment, he served as a plans and operations officer in the Mission Command Training Program. BG Brown then served as the S3 and Executive Officer of 3rd Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck, Germany and in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. Upon redeployment, he served as a Deputy Task Force Observer Coach Trainer and the Operations Group S3 at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center before assignment as the U.S. exchange officer to the Headquarters of the German Army. BG Brown then commanded 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry at Fort Bliss, Texas. Following battalion command, he attended the Joint Advanced Warfighting School and served as the Senior Advisor to the 205th Afghan National Army Corps in Kandahar, Afghanistan. BG Brown then commanded the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. While in command, the brigade deployed to Iraq and Syria in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Following redeployment, BG Brown assumed duties as the G3, then Chief of Staff of III Armored Corps and Fort Cavazos, Texas. BG Brown then served as the Deputy Commanding General of 3rd (United Kingdom) Division, headquartered at Bulford Camp in Wiltshire, England. He assumed duties as the V Corps Deputy Commanding General-Support in June 2024. BG Brown holds a MS in Engineering Management from Missouri Science and Tech and a MS in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy from the Joint Forces Staff College. BG Brown has been married to Heike for 22 years and they have one daughter, Marlena.

·       The importance of a kill contract to allow the Corps to focus targeting on IAD, C2, Logistics, and the Integrated Fires Command which will in return shape the fight for the divisions.
