Colonel Michael Carlén

Commander 4th Mechanised Brigade

Born and raised in Dalarna, Sweden, COL Carlén graduated from the officers academy in 1997. He was commisioned as an infantry officer. COL Carlén has served as a platoon leader for a mechanized infantry platoon in Kosovo (KFOR), company commander for an infantry company and as the commander of the 191st Combined Arms Battalion in Boden. COL Carlén has served in various staff assignments both nationally and internationally, this includes serving at the Finnish International Center, Swedish Land Combat School and the Royal Guards as ACOS G3. His most recent staff assignment was at the Policy and Plans Department of the SWAF Defense Staff. Since February 2022 COL Carlén is the commander of the 4th Mechanized Brigade in the Swedish Army. In that position he has successfully completed multiple joint and combined arms exercises. COL Carlén holds a masters degree in War Studies from the Swedish Defense University.
