Peter Ashworth is the Program Director Global Training Systems for Lockheed Martin Australia. In this capacity he is responsible for leading the Training and Logistics Systems Line of Business in Australia. In November 2023 Peter was appointed as a Director of Sikorsky Aircraft Australia Ltd. Peter joined Lockheed Martin Australia in January 2022 after 44 years’ service in the Royal Australian Navy, attaining the rank of Commodore. Peter’s operational career was predominately in Navy aviation as an Aviation Warfare Officer and instructor, including instructional appointments with the Royal Australian Air Force and U.K. Royal Navy. His flying career culminated in squadron command 2004-06. Following the end of his active flying career Peter specialised in major capital equipment acquisition. He progressed through a continuum as a Project Manager, Project Director, and ultimately as a Portfolio Executive responsible for all Navy aviation acquisition projects and sustainment products. His portfolio expanded to encompass all Defence basic and advanced flying training programs including acquisition projects and sustainment products. He was a regular Chair or panel member of Defence major capital equipment project Independent Assurance Reviews. In 2016-18 Peter served as the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Navy's Aviation force conducting operations globally. His responsibilities included strategic planning, governance, and operational management of the Navy Aviation force to safely maximise operational outcomes from the recapitalised Navy aviation force. This included establishing He has extensive executive leadership at Branch, headquarters, portfolio, and project/unit levels. He is a decision maker with excellent people and leadership skills that underpin his success in delivering outcomes and remediating problem programs. Peter was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) on Australia Day 2018 for meritorious service in Navy aviation and project management. In 2010 he was awarded the Royal Aeronautical Society (ACT Branch) Biennial Award for Excellence in Aviation for '...exemplary management of the maritime component of the Multirole Helicopter Program.' Peter has been conferred degrees of Master of Project Management (UNSW), Graduate Diploma of Business Administration (QUT), and Bachelor of Business (Management/Accounting) (Monash).
