Commodore Fleet Air Arm & Assistant Chief of Staff (Carrier Strike and Aviation) Royal Navy

Commodore Nick Walker assumed his appointment in July 2020. As Head of Fighting Arm the role encompasses managing, leading and directing Fleet Air Arm activity to deliver, integrate and assure maritime aviation. Joining as a Warfare Officer, he served as Gunnery Officer of a minesweeper before selection for flying duties and subsequent qualification as a Sea Harrier pilot. Front Line and instructional tours followed, flying operationally in OP SOUTHERN WATCH in the Gulf and OP PALLISER in Sierra Leone. A graduate of London’s City University (BSc (Hons) in Management and Systems) and Advanced Command and Staff Course (MA in International Relations and Defence Studies), he has interspersed his flying and sea service with nine staff tours, two of which were operational in Former Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. Prior to current post, he was embedded within the US Navy’s Air Warfare Division, OPNAV N98, in the Pentagon, and in the British Naval Staff in the Embassy. Nick is a keen sailor who enjoys reading, cycling, outdoor pursuits, all forms of travel and exploring new countries with an interest in social history and culture.
