Senior Director, Business Development, Vertical Lift Programs The Boeing Company

Mark Ballew is executive director, Vertical Lift Business Development, and Strategy, Boeing Defense, Space & Security. His responsibilities include: strategy, developing, planning, implementing and directing sales and marketing activities for a portfolio of rotary wing programs that include the AH-64 Apache, H-47 Chinook, AH-6 Little Bird, V-22 Osprey, MH-139 Grey Wolf, and Boeing’s Advanced Vertical Lift R&D programs. Ballew joins the Vertical Lift team from Boeing Global Services where he was senior director, Business Development, International Government & Defense. There, he led all Business Development efforts for the International Government Services business where he was responsible for growth and marketing activities covering the life cycle support and training requirements for all of Boeing’s defense-related products and several off-platform projects around the world. He led customer engagements, participation in air shows and trade events and the development of long-term sustainment strategies for each platform. Previously, Ballew was director, Global Sales and Marketing for Army Services in Huntsville, Ala., and each of Boeing’s vertical lift platforms in both Mesa, Ariz., and Ridley Park, Pa., where he was responsible for developing market strategies, acquiring new business, managing new business funds and providing customer support for Boeing’s rotary wing programs. In total, his teams have led sales efforts for more than 1,000 aircraft and services valued in excess of $45 billion. Prior to joining Boeing, Ballew served as an aviation/acquisition officer in the U.S. Army. He accumulated more than 2,000 flight hours as a Chinook helicopter pilot serving in numerous leadership positions around the world including operational test officer, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Special Mission Equipment Aircraft; assistant product manager, Air Traffic Control Systems; and the product manager, Aviation Ground Support Equipment. In his last military assignment, Ballew served as the commander, Defense Contract Management Agency at Boeing in Ridley Park, where he was responsible for leading more than 120 personnel managing 5,100 government contracts valued in excess of $32 billion. Ballew earned a Bachelor of Science in transportation/logistics from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Business Administration in aviation management and operations from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He is a graduate of the United States Army Safety Officer Course, the Material Acquisition Management Course, the Command and General Staff Officer's Course, and is Level III Acquisition Certified in Test and Evaluation and Program Management. He is a member of the Association of the United States Army, the American Helicopter Society and is the former president of both the Delaware Valley and the Arizona chapters of the Army Aviation Association of America.
