Based on the 1960s-era Hughes Model 369 (OH-6 Cayuse in US Army service), Boeing's AH-6i features an enhanced payload, avionics package and a Rolls-Royce 250-C30R/3M engine that develops a power output of 650shp. The engine is controlled by Full Authority Digital Electronic Controller (FADEC), enabling a maximum speed of 132kt, and is particularly well suited for operating in hot and high environments.
The contract for the 24 helicopters, first announced in 2013, was valued at $234 million.
